How to add a custom text or logo watermark to an image

Add your own text or logo with adjustable opacity, size, angle and placement. Repeat the watermark across the image or position a single mark before downloading.

  1. Choose the image to watermark, or load the example.
  2. Enter watermark text or choose your own logo image. A selected logo replaces the text mark.
  3. Adjust size, opacity, angle and position. Enable repeat placement and spacing, or add a text outline for contrast.
  4. Choose the export format and quality, review the current result and file size, then download the watermarked image.

Who benefits from adding a watermark

Photographers sharing client proofs often add a name across the image so the preview is clearly not the final delivery. Online sellers can stamp a shop name on product photos before posting them to marketplaces.

Designers sending mockups for feedback can tile a faint DRAFT label across the whole layout. Real estate agents, bloggers and small brands can place a small logo in one corner so the source of an image is obvious when it is shared.

A worked example with a tiled logo

Imagine a 1200 x 800 pixel photo and a logo that is twice as wide as it is tall. You set the size to 60 pixels, turn on repeat placement and leave tile spacing at 100. The logo is drawn 60 pixels tall and 60 x 2 = 120 pixels wide.

The horizontal step between tiles is the larger of three times the size (180) or the logo width plus spacing (120 + 100 = 220), so it is 220 pixels. The vertical step is the larger of twice the size (120) or the spacing (100), so it is 120 pixels.

Tiles start half a step in, at x = 110 and y = 60. Across the width they land at 110, 330, 550, 770 and 990, which is 5 columns. Down the height they land at 60, 180, 300, 420, 540, 660 and 780, which is 7 rows. That gives 5 x 7 = 35 logo marks. At 45 percent opacity, the default, the photo stays readable underneath.

How the settings shape the mark

Size is set in pixels from 8 to 400. For text, it is the font size of a bold sans-serif face. For a logo, it is the logo height, and the width follows the logo's own proportions. Opacity runs from 0 to 100 percent, and the angle runs from -180 to 180 degrees.

A single mark is placed by horizontal and vertical position percentages, measured to the center of the mark, or by dragging it on the preview. The outline option draws a thin border around text. It is dark when the text color is white and white for any other color, which keeps the words visible on busy backgrounds.

Repeat placement is limited to 2,000 tiles. If a setting would exceed that, the tool asks you to increase the size or spacing.

Common mistakes to avoid

A very low opacity can look fine on screen but vanish on a bright area of the photo. Check the mark over both light and dark regions. Going the other way, a solid mark at full opacity across a face or product can ruin the image you are trying to show.

Choosing JPEG for an image with transparent areas fills them with the JPEG background color, which is white by default. Use PNG or WebP if you need transparency. Also keep your unmarked original, because the mark is merged into the pixels of the downloaded file.

Useful tips and limitations

  • A watermark can discourage casual reuse but cannot guarantee protection from copying or editing.
  • Use a transparent PNG logo for a cutout logo mark. Use text instead to remove a selected logo.
  • Logo files can be PNG, JPEG, WebP or AVIF, but a transparent PNG gives the cleanest edge.
  • A slight angle, such as the default of -20 degrees, makes a tiled text mark harder to crop around than a straight horizontal line.

Common questions

Does this watermark tool add ToolWorld branding to my image?

No. It adds only the text or logo you choose. The other editing tools do not add an automatic watermark.

Can I repeat my watermark across the entire photo?

Yes. Enable repeat placement and adjust size, angle, opacity and tile spacing. Very dense grids are limited to keep processing bounded.

Can I remove the watermark after downloading?

The exported image has the mark baked into its pixels. Keep your original image separately; use Reset edits before exporting if you want to change the mark.

What image sizes can I export?

You can set output width and height, and the output is limited to 12 megapixels. Enlarging a small image does not add real detail.

Can I change the color of a logo watermark?

No. The color picker applies to text marks. A logo is drawn with its own colors, adjusted only by size, angle and opacity.

How long can the watermark text be?

The text field accepts up to 200 characters, though short names or labels are easier to read once rotated or tiled.
