How to practise the multiplication tables
Knowing the times tables by heart frees children to think about the harder parts of a problem. This game asks one fact at a time, gives instant feedback and finishes with stars and a list of the facts that still need work, so short daily practice adds up.
- Tap the tables you want to practise, or use All, 2, 5 and 10, or 6 to 9.
- Choose a mode: Practice with 20 questions, the 60-second challenge or Missing factor.
- Type the answer with the keyboard or the on-screen number pad and press Enter or OK.
- At the end, see your stars, your best score on this device and the facts you missed.
- Press Practice my mistakes for a new round with the tables you got wrong, or print the 1–12 chart.
The three ways to play
Each mode trains a different skill. Mix them through the week.
| Mode | What it asks | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Practice | 20 facts such as 7 × 8 | Learning a new table |
| 60-second challenge | As many facts as you can | Speed and recall |
| Missing factor | ? × 4 = 28 or 6 × ? = 42 | Getting ready for division |
Useful tips and limitations
- Start with 2, 5 and 10: they follow patterns children can see, and they help with the rest.
- Five minutes a day works better than one long session a week.
- Missing factor mode (? × 4 = 28) builds the link between multiplication and division.
Common questions
How are the stars given?
Three stars for a perfect round, two for 80 % or more and one for at least half. In the 60-second challenge, 25 correct answers with 90 % accuracy earn three stars.
Are the tables up to 10 or up to 12?
You can practise any table from 1 to 12. Each table is asked up to × 10, and the printable chart goes up to × 12.
Is my score saved?
Your best score for each mode and set of tables is kept only in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Can children play on a phone or tablet?
Yes. The large on-screen number pad works with touch, and the board fits the screen.
