How to take a quick 5-minute IQ test
Short on time? This version uses the same puzzle engine as the full Free IQ Test but asks only ten questions in five minutes. It is ideal as a warm-up, a coffee-break challenge or a way to compare scores with friends using the same test link.
- Press Start the test. The five-minute timer starts right away.
- For each grid, work out what changes along the rows and down the columns.
- Choose the missing piece with a tap or the keys 1 to 6, then press Enter for the next puzzle.
- When you finish or the time runs out, read your estimated IQ range and percentile.
- Use Copy link to this test to send friends the exact same ten puzzles.
Quick test or full test?
The quick test takes five minutes and uses ten puzzles: three easy, three medium and four harder ones. The full Free IQ Test takes up to twenty minutes and uses thirty. Both use the same scoring scale, but the quick test reports a wider range because it has less information to work with.
What's a good score on the quick test?
Use this table as a rough guide to what your number of correct answers suggests. Harder puzzles are weighted more, so two people with the same count can get slightly different ranges.
| Correct answers (of 10) | What it suggests |
|---|---|
| 9–10 | Very strong pattern reasoning |
| 7–8 | Above average |
| 4–6 | Around average |
| 0–3 | Below average on this test; try the full version |
Useful tips and limitations
- Because there are only ten puzzles, one lucky or unlucky answer moves the result a lot. Take the 30-question test for a steadier estimate.
- Do not spend more than a minute on one puzzle: skip it and come back if time allows.
- If your result surprises you, take the full 30-question test for a steadier estimate.
Common questions
How accurate is a 10-question IQ test?
Less accurate than a longer test. That is why the quick test shows a wider IQ range. Treat it as a fun snapshot and use the full test if you want a better estimate.
Can my friends take the same quick test?
Yes. Each test has a number. Share the link with ?seed= and that number, and everyone who opens it gets the same ten puzzles in the same order.
Can I retake the quick IQ test?
Yes, as often as you like. Retake gives you a new set of ten puzzles; the same link with ?seed= repeats an earlier set exactly.
Why is the quick test range wider than the full test range?
Fewer questions means more uncertainty, so the range around your estimate is wider. With 30 questions the range narrows.
